Abstract

Government tends to focus on managing waste into energy, such as processing waste into RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) in Cilacap. Material that has a high heating value fraction such as plastic is a potential energy source compared to organic waste. Calorific value for plastic waste is 8000 kcal/kg while organic waste is only around 656 kcal/kg. Whereas the composition of waste in Indonesia generally dominated by organic waste. The aims of this study was to analyze composition of waste in Cilacap as resource of RDF. This research is descriptive research use quantitative methods. Based on survey of 100 respondents, it was found that waste composition was dominated by organic waste by 53.14%. Then numbers of plastic waste, paper, cloth, and rubber/leather, respectively are 28.46%, 16.09%, 0.8%, 0.42%. Generally, people who produce more organic waste, tend to have high social activities, have no yards, and have no livestock. In addition, habitual buying too much food and leaving food behind can also trigger increasing amount of organic waste generation. From the data obtained calorific value is 3311 kcal/kg. By knowing theoretically calorific value of waste composition in Regency, it provides an overview of economic potential as well as study of appropriate suggestions for the government in policy making.
